Good day to all you Gooners out there. It pretty much doesn’t matter what day of the week it is as it feels like groundhog day what with the Emmanuel Adebayor and Hleb stories doing the rounds. Those stories feel like watching BBC during peak time – countless repeats.
However I will start with a player all Gooners should stand up for and show some appreciation for. None other than one Raymond ‘Romford Pele’ Parlour who has announced he’ll be hanging up his boots. It’s a great shame as I think Ray Parlour was a Gooner through and through and was the type of player you would love in your side. Admittedly he wasn’t the most technically gifted player but he had great heart, drive and always showed enthusiasm. And you can’t buy that. Obviously there comes a time when a player has to concede that his time has come to hang up those boots and I think Ray has accepted that, but he can look back on his career and say to himself, he’s done alright. Alright in the sense that he picked up more silverware than most and he has won more league titles (three) than Big Four Club Spurs™ have in their history! Oh spurs your such a ‘big club’.
Apart from us sentimental Gooners, the only other person not wanting to see you hang up your boots is probably your ex wife who took you to the cleaners and will probably have to get herself a Saturday job now to make ends meet. I met Romford Pele a few years ago in a restaurant along the Thames when he was still a Gooner and I can tell you he is a genuine nice guy, he wasn’t flash and giving it large, he was polite, bit cheeky and an all round top boy. For the historians amongst you, Ray played 339 times for The Arsenal scoring 22 times with the most famous one being the ‘It’s only Ray Parlour’ screamer against CSKA Chelsea in the 2002 F. A. Cup Final. I don’t think many people thought Parlour was capable of that. I was at the game in Cardiff and was a bit worse for wear having been drinking from 7am in limo from London. When Parlour picked up the ball I actually thought it was Dennis Bergkamp and I was sitting by the half way line ten seats up! But Ray you wont be forgotten mate that’s for sure, you are truly an Arsenal leg-end and we salute you. Good luck in whatever you do!
How’s your maths?
I’m not knocking Arsène Wenger , however do you remember just before the season end, the wily coach said he would make his signings within two or three weeks? Not sure about your maths but my maths is saying that was like about two months ago? So what’s happened about those signings? Was it wishful thinking or was Wenger just doing what he has done for the last couple of summers by saying he’ll signing ‘one or two special players’ ? Who’s know’s? I tell you what though the shenanigans with Hleb and Adebayor has distracted everyone from Wenger’s original comments. I don’t mind when we sign someone but don’t tell us it will be done within a time frame and when it doesn’t happen hope people forget. OK I can see it know, a deluge of the AKB’s (Arsene Know’s Brigade) are going to get on my back about this.
Like I said I am calm about the whole thing, I’m sure (hope) the signings will be made but why don’t you just be as shrewd about the timing as you are about the targets.
Papers in lying shocker..
Fellow Arsenal site, Arsenal Insider has got some ground breaking news. Yup, I’m not taking the piss because it is a good site and they are doing the right thing. Anyway they have the Hleb disses every Arsenal in full from the original interview from a Russian paper. However the headline: Breaking News: That Hleb interview in full…the proof that tabloids lie! Not much of shocker that is it? I think it was only the Arsenal sites that reported the whole Hleb malarkey from an objective viewpoint, whilst all the other sites were hyping the story beyond believe. But fair play to the Arsenal Insider for taking the time to publish the story, lets hope that the editors of the hype sites read it, doubt that some how though.
More on Adebayor (Groooooooooaaaaaaan)
Straight out of the lying horses mouth AC Milan vice-supremo Adriano Galliani says The Arsenal are now willing to listen to offers for The Togonator, in fact they wrote a letter. Well that’s nice isn’t it? Someone was kind enough to break out The Arsenal letter headed stationery to tell the bald plated mini me looking fella that we are willing to sell a player that isn’t for sale. As the story comes out of Italia, I would believe this as much as I believe spurs are a big club. But you can bet all the none Arsenal ‘news’ sites will be jumping all over this and NewsNow will have a seizure over the ‘Arsenal willing to sell Adebayor’ stories. Breaking news on the story is that Adriano Galliani who baulked at the £35m price tag of The Togonator will broker the deal by offering up and coming reserve team player Cazzo Stronzata to The Arsenal, so let’s see if it happens, yeah right!
